Orked's D.C. Mud Cake Birthday Cake

"Happy Birthday Jurin!"

-Jurin & Zai-
[Click on image to view Jurin's photography]

This particular cake was ordered by Nurzaifadillah, Jurin's dear girlfriend, for his 2?th birthday. It was a sunny afternoon of 5th May, 2009 when Zai picked the cake up at my house. Yes, I know. It was more than two weeks ago. But I just found the time to upload these pics since I was quite busy with the "needle-needle" and ITB's 18th Convocation. And yes, I am officialy an HND in Mechanical Engineering holder now. But I'm still jobless. Yays! LOL!

Back to Zai & Jurin... Zai came with Jurin's younger brother and the girlfriend. Jurin had no idea about her cake order because she wanted to surprise him with the cake. Zai wanted strawberries on the cake but unfortunately, strawberries weren't available at that time. Had hard time looking for strawberries all over the places with the boyfriend. And that's when I came up with a substitute. Moraschino Cherries! I've been meaning to get a jar of them for some time but didn't have a strong urge to purchase them until Zai's cake order. I just love cherries, don't you? It has this unique "medicine-ish" taste, which some people are not comfortable with. But I think it tastes really good and a great substitute for strawberries as well. The cake looked totally fabulous! Simple yet mouth-watering. Enjoy the pictures everyone!

My camera died on me. Thanks to the boyfriend! He came to the rescue with his photography skills and Sony Alpha 350. I am pretty much satisfied with the pics. Especially with the details and all. I was like, "Ermmm... Macam gambar kereta jua aa." Heehee!

Cookies Sold Out in an Instant at RBTS!

-Nadia, a close friend of mine-
Picture taken from her Facebook

An ex-colleague of RBTS (a close friend actually), Nadia Hj Leman, agreed to help me sell some of Orked's Cookies at her work place. According to Nadia, it was only a few minutes since she arrived at the office and the cookies were sold out already. I was surprised to receive a personal message from her on my MSN saying, "Cookies sold out!!!" At that time, I just got back home after sending off ten packs of cookies to her place and was just switching on my lappie when I got the message. It totally made my day! Thanks Nadia for selling and promoting them for me. I'm honoured to make more cookies for you to sell (as requested) by this Monday. And I know that you're craving for them already. *giggles*

-COMPLETELY SOLD OUT!-

I would also like to thank my cookies customers at RBTS: Pg Zul (he bought two packs!), Ka Suria, Shazil, Zaki, Ali, Khai, Fizah and Tuty. Thank you very much!

Fanatic Chocolate Fan Bought Orked's Cookies!

This sweet, pretty lady, Izan Rosli (Sorry guys! She's taken already. Boo hoo!), came all the way to Giant Hypermarket (our meeting point) just to buy some cookies of mine. She wanted all Double Chocolate since she loves chocolate so much (she told me that she finds chocolates irresistible) but too bad, it was out. So, she bought the last pack of Orked's Crunchy Cookies and two packs of Orked's Old Fashioned Chocolate Chip Cookies (mixed). It costs $9 altogether but she was kind enough to let me keep the change when she paid me with a ten dollar note. Thank you Izan! Thank you for coming all the way from where ever you were just for the sake of my cookies. I'm so glad that you liked them. Try Orked's Dark Chocolate Mud Cake soon yea? *giggles*

My Youngest Cookie Customer!

-A happy family-

This cute, little girl is responsible for the trail of cookie crumbs in my other half's bedroom. Zaininaannaty, the only child to Haji Asri and Kristina, has been sneaking into her uncle's bedroom and ate cookies out its jar in the dark. *giggles* Then on Friday night, she rang me using her cell phone (Yes, her very own cell phone! Six year olds these days~) and placed an order of 300g of Orked's Double Chocolate Crunchy Cookies for Sunday. But I got her cookies ready by Saturday night. So I took the cookies with me when my other half picked me up at my home for a Saturday night out. And I was surprised by a little girl's presence in the car. Cute, little Nina insisted on picking up the cookies herself! She paid me with a ten dollar note as soon as I sat myself on the front seat of the white Toyota Fortuner. And I actually demanded for a kiss when she asked for her cookies. *grinning slyly* And when I handed her the cookies, she actually wondered why I had it all packed in three individual brown paper bags and gathered them in a plastic bag. Because she was actually expecting me to store them in a fancy cookie jar just like the one I had for my other half!

Welcome to Orked's!

Finally, a separate blog for the baking business! A round of applause for the launch of Orked's! *clapping the hands* Thank you, thank you!

I would like to share with you a bit of a story of how I came about in this baking business. To me, baking has always been a passion. It started out when I was still in high school. I loved trying out new recipes and when I succeed, I remake and serve them during our Hari Raya open house. Compliments from families and friends encouraged me so much in my passion. And the demand for my desserts actually raised my spirits to sell them. So, I started accepting orders for Hari Raya. But when I completed my G.C.E. A Levels in 2005, I had the whole of eight months doing nothing while waiting for enrollment at ITB in August 2006. And that's when I accepted more orders besides just Hari Raya orders.

My real inspiration is actually my mother. My mother have been making cakes and biscuits since she was just a teenager. She had been practising making home made cakes and biscuits for serving during Hari Raya ever since we moved to our own home, which is twenty years ago. This is a tradition set by my dad because he is quite picky about the cakes and biscuits he eats. When it comes to cleanliness, my mum is very strict about it. She would wash eggs with soap before using them and talking is prohibited while preparing them. She never trained me but I got to help her around in the kitchen a lot and learned from her without having her to teach. I have learned most of my basic skills from her and have been using her baking equipments i.e. her Kenwood Chef Mixer, her Baby Beiling oven, her basins & spatulas, etc., in my baking business without having to buy them for my own use. My mum plays an important role and always my reference in any baking issues.

So, I would like to dedicate this page to my mother, Pg Norzanah Pg Hj Ali, for being my inspiration, for passing down the "baking gene" to me and also for washing the dishes when I'm totally exhausted. Also to my father, Ahmad Al-Shokry Hj Julaihi (my personal banker), for being supportive money wise, for being the one I turn to when I'm in need of cash to buy ingredients.

-Mamaku & Babahku-

As well as to my other half, Mohammad Nasiruddin (my personal "tester"), for all the kind compliments he gave me when I don't even have to ask for it and also for creating the advertisement of Orked's on his page, Brunei Carzine.

Not to forget my brother, Lei, for helping me with the oven and for eating up my cookies without telling me.

-Lei-

My pretty sister, AdeQ, for taking over the cookies business when things got out of hand and helping me doing the cookies sometimes.

-AdeQ Kaka-

And especially to all my loyal customers: Nene Lampoh, Aunty Nine & family, Aunty Gigie and her nursing friends, my sexy aunt "Chantiq Ali" and to all who has supported me (you know who you are), thank you for your support!
